SCGOP Chairman comments on House Republican agenda

South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Karen Floyd today issued the following statement on the state House Republican Caucus’ agenda:

“It’s never been more important to have our Republican leaders so focused on creating jobs and improving the economic climate in our state, and I am pleased to see those goals represented so prominently in the House Republican agenda,” Floyd said.

The State: Voter ID compromise reached

The Senate reached a compromise Thursday on a controversial Voter IDbill that phases in over two years new requirements for a picture IDin order for a person to vote in South Carolina.

The bill also establishes a new 15-day early voting period prior toelections, maintains walk-in absentee voting for 30 days prior to anelection and retains mail-in absentee voting beginning at 45 daysbefore an election.

The photo identification requirement takes effect Jan. 2, 2012, andthe State Election Commission must begin issuing voter registrationcards with photo ID by July, 1, 2011, pending state funding being madeavailable for the cards.
