Matt Moore – Executive Director

Matt manages SCGOP operations, budget, and political strategy. A veteran of over 50 winning Republican campaigns, Matt previously served as the Executive Director of a statewide political action committee, as Deputy Political Director at the national Republican Governors Association (RGA), and as a Deputy Director at the Georgia Republican Party. Matt has also served as an aide to two Republican governors and has advised three winning gubernatorial campaigns on technology and grassroots mobilization. His private sector experience includes systems engineering projects at The Home Depot, Nortel Networks, and ALCOA.
Matt earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (with honors) and a minor in Law from Georgia Tech and is completing his Master of Arts in Economics thesis at the University of South Carolina. He is a member of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia.
Alex Stroman – Political Director

Alex Stroman, a native of Chester, is a 2011 Political Science graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he served as Student Body Vice President. He has been active in the South Carolina Republican Party for many years, including serving as Chairman of both the South Carolina Teenage Republicans and the University of South Carolina College Republicans. In addition to working at two new media firms, Alex served as a legislative aide to Rep. Greg Delleney from 2008 until 2011. He most recently served as a campaign aide to State Treasurer Curtis Loftis in his successful 2010 race and managed a winning school board campaign later that year. Alex attends Columbia’s First Baptist Church.
David Smith – Operations Director

David, a native of Orangeburg, is a 2005 graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Business Administration. After graduation, David worked for a law firm before joining Governor Mark Sanford’s staff, where he served as a legislative correspondent. Most recently, he was a program coordinator in the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. David is a member of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia.
Hope Walker – Finance Assistant

Hope is from Irmo and is a 2011 graduate of Newberry College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a double minor in History and Spanish where she was active as Student Body President. Hope has experience in various areas of the South Carolina Republican Party, ranging from campaigning and fundraising to event planning and constituent service. She has served on multiple boards within the SCGOP and is knowledgeable and engaged in party politics. Hope is passionate about spreading the conservative message and recruiting new Republicans.
Sharon Thomson – Comptroller

Sharon graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. She has over 20 years experience in the accounting field, primarily in mortgage banking and the construction industry. She currently owns her own firm, providing accounting services to a number of small businesses. She is a notary with the State of South Carolina and a member of the National Association of Women in Construction. Sharon previously served as Comptroller for Chairman Karen Floyd.
