Rob Miller Afraid to Align with Political Middle

LIBERAL DEMOCRAT ROB MILLER REBUFFS
OVERTURE FROM CONGRESSIONAL “BLUE DOGS”

South Carolinians wonder: Why is Miller afraid to side with
moderates and conservatives?

(COLUMBIA, SC – June 30, 2010) Just when you think liberal Democrat Rob Miller has squirmed all he can to avoid publicly taking a firm stand on key issues, he squirms some more.

It’s bad enough he bounces back and forth between talking tough on some conservative issues, and then stands with liberals so he can take their hefty checks. Now it turns out Rob Miller is even afraid to align himself with the political middle!

Don’t take our word for it. Just yesterday, Miller had a chat with the liberal blog Down With Tyranny. And what a revealing chat it was. Miller tipped his hand more than he probably intended, indicating that if the voters of South Carolina’s Second Congressional District send him to Washington, he won’t side with the moderate and conservative House Democrats known as the “Blue Dogs.”

The blog post says: “…I asked (Miller) if we can expect to see him join the Blue Dog Caucus in Congress. He laughed. “I get asked that all the time.” He said he wouldn’t be joining the Blue Dogs…” (Read entire post by clicking here)

But it gets better. The post goes on to report “…an impeccable source told me that the Blue Dogs approached Miller several times bearing gifts… and he turned them down flat.”

Why this sudden display of political conviction? Miller is quoted as explaining it this way: “What South Carolinians are looking for is an independent voice that represents hard working people in this district…”

No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. Rob Miller, the same candidate whose Federal Election Commission financial filings reveal had no problem pocketing a cool $370,000 funneled through the ultra-liberal MoveOn.org that mocked Gen. David Petraeus, suddenly wants to be an “independent.”

So Miller’s political identity crisis drags on while perplexed South Carolinians keep asking: Just whose side is Rob Miller really on?

At least we now know this much: as the political winds toss him around like a twister, wherever Rob Miller finally lands, there won’t be any moderate or conservative Democrats there to welcome him.

URGENT: VICTORY 2010 CHALLENGES ROB MILLER TO RETURN MOVEON.ORG MONEY

AS SENATE HOLDS IMPORTANT HEARING,
WILL ROB MILLER RETURN MONEY TO LIBERALS WHO
SMEARED GEN. PETRAEUS?

SC VICTORY 2010 Challenges Miller to Return $370,950.10 in donations

(COLUMBIA, SC – JUNE 29, 2010) An extremist group once questioned whether a successful American Army General would betray us. Who would take money from people like that?

Liberal Democrat Rob Miller, that’s who.

As the Senate Armed Services Committee holds a hearing today on General David Petraeus’ nomination to command U.S. military forces in Afghanistan, Americans are remembering a shameful incident that happened amid a similar hearing nearly three years ago.

The liberal activist group MoveOn.org released an infamous advertisement in September 2007 smearing General Petraeus’ integrity, asking “PETRAEUS OR BETRAY US?” (click to see ad). That ad was widely condemned. Now, the General who withstood MoveOn.org’s assault and went on to help change the direction of events in Iraq is being asked to produce the same results in Afghanistan.

MoveOn.org was wrong about General Petraeus in 2007 and they are still wrong today. Now, MoveOn.org wants to send liberal Democrat Rob Miller to Washington as their Congressman from South Carolina’s Second District. Statements filed with the Federal Election Commission show MoveOn.org has funneled a whopping $370,950.10 in campaign contributions to Rob Miller For Congress!

Why does MoveOn.org want Rob Miller to win so badly? Because they know he will advance their liberal agenda.

Clearly, MoveOn.org’s views are deeply offensive to South Carolina’s long and illustrious military heritage and its ongoing commitment to America’s men and women in uniform. Accepting more than one-third of a million dollars from this group tells South Carolinians that Rob Miller stands alongside MoveOn.org and against the views held by most people in the Second Congressional District.

Today, SC Victory 2010 challenges Rob Miller to immediately step forward, do the right thing and return every last penny of the $370,950.10 he has received from MoveOn.org. Keeping this money is a clear indication that as a Congressman, Rob Miller would be more beholden to those who paid for his election than to the people he supposedly would serve. Every day he delays in refunding the money and repudiating MoveOn.org is a day South Carolinians can only wonder: whose side is Rob Miller really on?

Vince Sheheen – Liberal on Illegal Immigration

Columbia, SC – June 24, 2010 – State Senator Vince Sheheen is not what he appears to be.

While campaigning as a moderate, Sheheen’s Senate record shows him to be something very different – a “bleeding heart liberal” (The State, 1/11/08) as one Senate colleague dubbed him.

In fact, Sheheen’s voting record has been anything but moderate on any number of issues – from illegal immigration, to taxes, to spending and growing government.

Sheheen cast the lone “no” vote on a Senate subcommittee bill that would have made sure South Carolina’s government business was conducted only in English! (Associated Press, 1/10/08)

Sheheen sought to create loopholes in South Carolina’s anti-illegal immigration law. He “argued for some exceptions” in the law, which would require employers to verify the citizenship status of those they employee. (Greenville News, 10/26/06).

“When it comes to illegal immigration, Senator Sheheen was too busy trying to appease ultra liberals to realize that South Carolinians expect tough action,” SCGOP Chairman Karen Floyd said. “Unfortunately, this is part of a larger pattern with Senator Sheheen – a voting record that doesn’t reflect South Carolina values, and instead follows the Washington liberal model of more government, more spending and more debt.”

Floyd said that today was the beginning of a months-long effort to tell the real story of Vincent Sheheen.

“Senator Sheheen is a liberal in moderate’s clothes,” Floyd said. “But we are going to make sure that voters know the truth about his voting record come November. Today is just the tip of the iceberg.”

The Greene Sheheen Democrat Machine

Sometimes the Democrats make our lives a little too easy. Take for example the top of the Democratic ticket.

As much as Democrats want to distance themselves from their Senate nominee, both the Attorney General’s office and the state Election Commission say that there’s no evidence of anything but Alvin Greene winning fair and square. Now his name will head up the 2010 Democrat ticket.

Vincent Sheheen can run, but he can’t hide.  It was bad enough that he had to share the ticket with Congressman John Spratt in the 5th and Rob Miller in the 2nd. Now Sheheen’s name will appear right under Alvin Greene’s on the statewide ballot.

Will Vincent Sheheen stand with his party and work to push a man who won fair and square off the ticket? Or will Vincent Sheheen embrace a man who is currently facing a felony obscenity charge?  Either way, Vincent Sheheen has found himself in a greene pickle.

The Democrats couldn’t find a candidate for Treasurer or Adjutant General. They have one congressional candidate running from TV cameras while showing up at fundraisers for Nancy Pelosi. They even have Nancy Pelosi’s chief budget writer running for re-election. If all that wasn’t bad enough, now their gubernatorial nominee has to play second fiddle to a potential felon.

SCGOP Chairman Responds to Voter ID defeat

Statement by SC GOP Chairman Karen Floyd on the S.C. Senate’s inability to break a Democratic filibuster on the Voter ID bill

“The S.C. Senate had a wonderful opportunity to pass new Voter ID legislation this year.  Such a reform would have gone a long way in preventing voter fraud and abuse. We were all hopeful the Senate could move it past the finish line,” Floyd said.

“Unfortunately it was blocked by a Democratic Party filibuster.  I join many other Republican activists across South Carolina in expressing deep disappointment that a Senate with a substantial Republican majority could not break the filibuster. Sadly, several Republican Senators simply would not join their Republican colleagues to vote for cloture. Specifically, Senators Leatherman, O’Dell and Rankin refused to do so. And while we understand Senator Knotts had agreed to vote for cloture, it was too late.

“However it is worth noting the Republican Senators who fought the hardest for this bill – Majority Leader Peeler, Senator Campsen and Senator Shoopman. We all thank them for their leadership and we thank all the Republicans who voted for cloture.

“We will continue to fight for this issue, and will not hesitate to make it known exactly why the bill did not pass this year.”

Joe Wilson Safe

Good news coming from South Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District. Nancy Pelosi, Moveon.org and the other liberal Washington special interest may be targeting Congressman Wilson, but they’re not having much luck.  According to the polling firm that put Congressman Wilson down to Rob Miller last summer, “with the passage of time SC-2 has not really emerged as a competitive seat for this fall.”  According to Public Policy Polling “if you do a poll immediately after something like this has been all over the news for a few days you are liable to get numbers that show a misleadingly close race.”
